چکیده

This paper presents a development model focused on the production of dependable systems. Three classes of processes are distinguished: 1) the system creation process which builds on the classical development steps (requirements, design, realization, integration); 2) dependability processes (i.e., fault prevention, fault tolerance, fault removal and fault forecasting); and 3) other supporting processes such as quality assurance and certification. The proposed approach relies on the identification of basic activities for the system creation process and for the dependability processes, and then on the analysis of the interactions among the activities of each process and with the other processes. Finally, to support the development of dependable systems, we define for each system creation activity, a checklist that specifies the key issues that need to be addressed with respect to each dependability process.

Data Replication-Based Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment

Abstract— High-performance computing and vast storage are two key factors required for executing data-intensive applications. In comparison with traditional distributed systems like data grid, cloud computing provides these factors in a more affordable, scalable and elastic platform. Furthermore, accessing data files is critical for performing such applications. Sometimes accessing data becomes...

Identifying and Evaluating Critical Infrastructures - A Goal-driven Dependability Analysis Framework

Organizations increasingly depend on the correct functioning (dependability) of technological infrastructures (critical infrastructures) that are generally out of their control: banking and financial services, electricity, fuel and water supply networks, and information and telecommunication networks. Being able of clearly identifying the specific elements of these infrastructures upon which th...

On Cloud-Based Engineering of Dependable Systems

The cloud computing paradigm is being adopted by many organizations in different application domains as it is cost effective and offers a virtually unlimited pool of resources. Engineering critical systems can benefit from clouds in attaining all dependability means: fault tolerance, fault prevention, fault removal and fault forecasting. Our research aims to investigate the potential of support...

Dynamic Change Management for Minimal Impact on Dependability and Performance in Autonomic Service-Oriented Architectures

Dynamic change management in an autonomic, service-oriented infrastructure is likely to disrupt the critical services delivered by the infrastructure. Furthermore, change management must accommodate complex real-world systems, where dependability and performance objectives are managed across multiple distributed service components. This paper presents a change management framework that enables ...

An ANSA Analysis of Open Dependable Distributed Computing

System dependability is increasing in importance in the market place. A recent report predicts that the market for fault-tolerant systems will double in the next three years. Within the context of large open distributed systems, dependability will be particularly important: the more components a system has the greater the probability that one of those components will be faulty. Over the next tw...
